01 May 2007 Bronze Star with V: Disregarding his own safety and exposing himself to enemy fire, Specialist Fourth Class Evaristo Martinez III went to the aid of a fellow soldier whereupon he was mortally wounded. For this act of bravery, Evaristo was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor. Evaristo's mother and father were presented this award by Colonel Johnny M. Rice. A true hero is one who gives his life for another.
