I met Pfc Rogers in Okinawa when I was assigned to 2nd Platoon, Lima 3/1. We were in the same fire team. He was quiet and always kept to himself. We went on liberty together only one time to Honoko. When he was promoted to Lance Corporal I was one of those honored to pin his stripe. Shortly thereafter in Nam, I was also promoted to E-3 and he paid back. I was in the next foxhole when he got hit that night. We heard a loud blast and did not know what was happening. Everything was quiet until that loud blast. I believe someone threw a hand grenade or satchel charge at the foxhole. It was the only enemy activity we had seen that night. The other Marine with him suffered serious injuries and we assumed that Rogers had taken the brunt of the explosion. We lost a Good Man on that night. Semper Fi, Bro.
