On February 1, 1968, five men from 1st Battalion, 46th Infantry were together in a briefing tent on Artillery Hill (Hill 54) in Quang Tin Province, RVN, preparing to go on a search and destroy mission when a claymore mine accidently detonated. All five soldiers suffered fatal injuries in the blast. It was later determined that a blasting cap had not been removed from the mine and its ignition may have been caused by static electricity from a transistor radio that was found at the scene. The men who perished in that accident were:
PFC Brown was born on February 26, 1948. His brother Michael Sean (Brown) McCrossin was born December 5, 1949. They were separated when Michael was adopted at age 5. Due to some medical reason, Elyvin was not allowed to be adopted too. Michael was saddened when he learned that his brother Elyvin had enlisted and was killed in VietNam.
